The Dior bar jacket
The Dior bar jacket is one of the most iconic jackets you can buy. I love a blazer and a jacket, so for me the bar jacket is iconic! The jacket turns 73 this year and is famous for its hourglass figure that gave the post war fashion a seductive glow up. The jacket is meant to be worn for cocktail hour in bars in grand hotels of Paris and it took its name from the bar at the Plaza Athenee which Dior visited frequently. The jacket is famously part of the iconic ''New Look'' revolution and era, where Dior promoted rounded shoulders, a cinched waist and a full skirt. The Jacket is still extremely iconic to date and is still sold by Dior. Many people will buy from Dior and then get them to tailor it to fit their body perfectly.
I adore the shape, but it does come with a price tag. There is always the option of buying vintage, but then you would probably need to get it tailored to fit. I was scrolling on Zara the other day and I came across two jackets in particular that really surprised me with how similar they looked to Dior jackets. The above Zara jacket I actually own in a houndstooth and it really does fit me like a glove and gives me such Dior vibes. I have styled it with a tulle skirt and I feel very Dior ''New Look''. It looks very similar to the Dior jacket that I found on the right indeed. This below jacket does however have the hourglass shape, I have tried it on and the shape is unbelievable. If you wanted to get the iconic original hourglass shape of the Dior bar jacket, this would do that. You could add a belt if you wanted to accentuate it.
